How does delivery work?

Freight, kerbside, on a lift-gate truck. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a window, and someone needs to be there to receive and sign for it. This one crates at 280 lbs.

Check the crate before you sign. Look for dents, cracks or creases on any side. If you see damage, or suspect it, open the carton and inspect it while the driver is still there.

If it is damaged, refuse the delivery. That is what the distributor asks you to do and it is the cleanest outcome for you: a refused shipment goes straight back and we send a replacement, rather than you owning a damaged pit while a claim is argued. If the driver will not wait, will not let you inspect, or will not let you write the damage on the delivery receipt, do not sign anything and call us while they are still there.

If you do accept it with damage noted, the note has to go on the delivery receipt next to your signature — a signature on its own, or a note made afterwards, is not what the manufacturer's policy accepts. If the driver is using a handheld rather than paper, ask them to key the damage in and give you an exception number before they leave. Photograph the crate either way.

Scuffs, torn wrap and dust are normal on a freight crate and are not damage on their own. If the crate is sound, sign for it and unpack it as soon as you can.

Unpack it and find a problem? Tell us within five business days of delivery — that is the distributor's deadline for reporting concealed damage, and a claim reported after it is very hard to make stick. Sooner is better: the carrier has to be satisfied the damage did not happen after delivery. Photograph everything before you move it, and leave it in its packaging until we have filed. We deal with the carrier.

What are the electrical requirements?

This model: 120VAC required on Electronic Ignition models only.

  • Match lit models need no electrical supply at all — they are lit by hand with the supplied key.
  • Electronic ignition needs a 120V outdoor receptacle at the pit, installed and grounded in accordance with local codes. That is an electrician's job, not an extension lead.
  • Worth quoting together: the gas connection is a licensed installer's job too, so get both priced in one visit.

Your installer will want this model's rated output to size the gas line — it is in the specification table further down this page.

Does it arrive assembled?

Yes. The burner, pan and valve are fitted before it ships, and the enclosure arrives as one piece in its crate. There are no panels to assemble.

Installation type: Freestanding, fully assembled.

What it still needs is a gas connection by a licensed installer, and on a wood or composite deck, the manufacturer's deck insulation kit.

What does the warranty cover?

We do not publish a warranty summary for this model, because the manufacturer's own documents disagree with each other and we are not going to pick the flattering one.

Ask us and we will get the current terms for this exact configuration in writing from the manufacturer before you order.

What you are buying

The Agni is the plainest thing HPC makes, and that is the point. A single powder-coated steel cylinder, no cladding, no stonework, no attempt to look like masonry. It reads as one object rather than a feature, which is why it sits well on a finished terrace where a faux-stone surround would fight the paving.

It measures 60" diameter x 18" high (16" to burner deck) and weighs 130 lb before crating.

Because the wall is steel rather than clad concrete, it is lighter than it looks and can be repositioned by two people once the gas line is disconnected. It is not a portable object, but it is not a permanent one either.

The Penta burner is HPC's standard five-point burner. Lower rated output than the Torpedo, and the sensible choice in a sheltered spot where the bigger burner would simply be more than you need. Electronic ignition starts it at the touch of a button and runs at full output. It needs a 120V outlet at the pit.

Two practical things before you order. The gas connection is a licensed installer's job rather than a weekend one, and the electronic ignition needs a 120V outlet at the pit - worth quoting both together. And it arrives by freight to the kerb, so it is worth deciding now how it gets from there to where it is going.

In the crate

One crate, delivered by freight to the kerb. The burner, the valve and the gas connections are fitted before it ships.

Every figure, and where it came from.

Every line below either names where the figure came from, or says why there isn't one. Nothing here is inferred.

Certification
HPC sorts its own range by certification, and this line sits outside every CSA-certified category in its price sheet. Match-lit and push-button kits are listed there as uncertified. Where a CSA listing does exist it covers a specific burner insert, never the enclosure.

Will it fit where you want to put it?

The question that decides most fire-pit returns, and it is usually answered after the crate arrives. Here are the published figures first, with where each one comes from.

WALL OVERHEAD STRUCTURE FIRE PIT 36β€³ 84β€³

HPC install manual, Table 3.1 β€” published for the burner class, not per model

  • To combustible structure36β€³
  • To non-combustible12β€³
  • Overhead clearance84β€³
  • Below valve box, for drainage2β€³
Overhead structure · Non-combustible screen only

Above 200,000 BTU the manufacturer's clearances change: 48β€³ to structure or combustibles (24β€³ to non-combustibles), and overhead a non-combustible screen rather than a solid roof. This model's highest-output burner configurations are rated above that threshold and its lower ones are not, so the answer depends on the configuration you choose. Tell us which one and we will confirm the clearances in writing before you order.

Every one of these has air-flow openings built into the shell, and the manufacturer requires them to stay open and uncovered. Worth knowing before you plan to box the pit into a surround or set it tight against anything.

Building on a deck?

A wood or composite deck surface requires the manufacturer's deck insulation kit β€” basalt material and instructions. It is not included and it is not optional. HPC publishes it in two sizes, FPI-DECK20SQ and FPI-DECK39SQ, and they are sized to the inside of the pit rather than its outside, which is easy to get wrong. Tell us the model and we will put the right one on the order and confirm what else the deck needs underneath.

Weight and delivery

  • Product weight130 lbs
  • Crated weight280 lbs

The crated figure is the pallet, not the piece. Crated weight is what the freight carrier works to and why delivery is kerbside. Once the crate and pallet are off, what you are actually moving into position is the product weight above β€” usually a little over half of it.

Delivery and what happens on the day

The line above the Add to Cart button says how this model travels. The enclosures and the concrete go kerbside on a lift-gate truck; the lighter spun bowls ship by parcel carrier instead.

If it comes by freight, the carrier calls to arrange a window and someone needs to be there to receive and sign. What to check before you sign, when to refuse a damaged delivery, and how long you have to report it are set out under How does delivery work? beside the Add to Cart button. The reporting windows differ by manufacturer, so for this model they are kept in that one place.

If it comes by parcel, there is no appointment and nothing to sign for. Check the cartons on arrival and photograph anything broken before you unpack.

If something is wrong, call us on the day. We handle the carrier.

Installation

Gas connection must be made by a licensed installer, and electronic ignition needs 120VAC at the fire pit. Neither is a DIY step, and both are worth quoting before you order.

The manufacturer publishes its manuals by ignition system rather than by product, and none of them names this configuration. We have asked which one covers it.

This is a new line for us

We have only just started carrying this brand, so there is nothing here yet. When a review appears under this heading it will be from someone who bought this exact fire pit from us. The store-wide feed further down is clearly labelled as what it is.

Worth reading first

Overhead clearance: the real numbers by BTU — what a pergola, roof or overhang actually requires, and how the answer changes with rated output.

Electronic ignition vs match lit — why an electronic burner needs a fixed gas line and cannot run from a portable propane tank.
